RISE FROM THE ASHES

Rise From The Ashes

This film is based on a a true story about Narcissism, the marriage that I suffered through and the journey of how I met my ex-husband. The purpose for creating this film is to show the world how common these relationships are and to bring awareness to victims.

After I started learning about NPD, no matter how painful it was, I realized that many others were living in these conditions and I was shocked. That's when I began to share bits and pieces of my story on social media. Soon enough, women that I vaguely knew began coming forward about emotional abuse that they suffered in their own relationships and I refused to be silent any longer.

Naturally, I have a strong urge to share my life experiences. I am never ashamed to share my current or past circumstances because I feel that you can learn something from anyone. Some people hold onto pain for so long that before they even realize it, they have become someone else. And in my opinion, that is one way Narcissism is born.

The emotional roller coaster that I experienced during my marriage made me shut down for a long time, because I was scared to say something that my ex-husband would disapprove of. So in regard to my feelings, I just held my tongue a lot - to keep the peace. But I never lost the impulse to tell it like it is. I just needed to find my voice again.
Synopsis

Rise From the Ashes is based on a true story of an African American woman who travels to Africa, falls in love and a marriage gone horribly wrong.

Gracie Phoenix is a young, optimistic and spontaneous mother of three boys. She works tirelessly to make ends meet, always has positive attitude about life and has big dreams that she is pushing towards.

One day, Phoenix meets a narcissistic, married African man; named Levi, who takes interest in her naivety and decides that she is perfect for his plan. He needs a beautiful woman who isn’t tied down and that can be a pretty face for a deal he is working on in Africa. The plan was simple: fly to Senegal in a private jet, sell it to the President, collect their money and fly back home.

After selling the aircraft, Levi, his wife Sheila and Phoenix become very close; their two families became one. However, the three adults become more than just friends. They become intimate as well. Things get messy when Phoenix wants to see Levi for longer periods of time, which was not the original arrangement. Sheila is okay with sharing Levi with Phoenix, but eventually starts to feel left out. Phoenix is tired of the restrictions that their relationship is placed under and decides she wants her own husband.

Of course, Levi is not okay with Phoenix moving on. So he makes a deal with Francois, an available, and also narcissistic, African man who is a business partner and friend of his. Levi asks Francois date Phoenix to keep her close to him in hopes that Francois would show her how horrible relationships are - and that Phoenix would go running back to Levi. However, things didn't go as Levi planned and Phoenix ends up falling in love with Francois, who doesn’t love her. That’s when the two narcissistic egos clash and things take a turn for the worse. Francois marries Phoenix for his US citizenship and they have a child together....all while Phoenix has no idea of their scheme and is deeply in love with Francois. Years later, Phoenix realizes she was passed off to Francois as a punishment for being “rejected” by her.
